Going to the Orchard

Oakwood is about 20 minutes from our house. I use to go here with the kindergardeners every fall for our first field trip.

Nothing like a brisk day and shiny apples to take home.
The backdrop is almost as beautiful as the bounty.
Gourds of many colors.

Indian corn waiting for
a good home.

My sister and I took our Mom to
the orchard. She said she remembers
taking me when I was One year old
after a big wind. They were picking
up 'wind fall' apples for free back then.

Maybe we should have waited till tomorrow.
40 mph winds are expected here.

Doing a brisk business on a nice Fall day.

Here is the operation on a Sunday.
It is fascinating how they wash, separate the seconds, shine them all up, and package them
for shipping. The kids always got a kick out of the giant coolers with apple boxes stacked to the ceilings.

Beautiful Weekend

Polly is waiting for her master to take her for a ride. **Note all the leaves that have fallen.

A big THANK YOU to Pat and all her friends for blessing me with this cabin wall hanging. You will see this hanging the next time you all come. Yup, they made me cry.

Love this cart for hauling 'stuff'.

These necklaces will be a fundraiser for 'Walk with Grace'. Nice work Debbie.

Loved this heart Christmas quilt below.

A couple of cotton theory rugs and a nice long table runner.

These girls were finishing some 'big' quilts - they unfurled them out the window.

September thrifting

Here are some of the latest things I brought home with me from the thrift stores.
It's official now - I have 3 - a collection of chalk dogs that were 'won' at the county fairs. And a nice framed picture of sheep with the wavy glass.
Something for the 60's room........
What is better than a black patent leather vintage purse?
This is a 1950's Baby Shower game - what a hoot. Hope I get to use it someday.
I had this nice elderly couple join my bridal collection. Aren't they sweet?

Garden Art from Wisconsin

I got asked a few times, where I got my funky birdhouses and metal flowers so I thought I'd share this gals blogsite. It is Shari Grenzow Mauer from Kiel, Wisconsin. Her business name is Heart to Heart and I think she does great work.

How can you not smile when this is in amongst the flowers?

Old Blind Dogs return to 'the Ridge'

Our church's Fall Festival was this past Sunday. And we had the pleasure to be entertained by Old Blind Dogs. A Scottish folk band who is very entertaining. Always adding more 'lore' into their 'folk'.
Some of the maples are stunning.
Fraser on percussion - it was mostly a blur - he was soooo fast!
Jonny Hardie could fiddle !!!
Learning the fast paced 'cup game' taught by Fraser Stone. Jessi and Caroline had no problem, but Josh, well, a little bit a trouble.
My niece, has got dancing in her feet/blood. The band invited folks to get up and dance as they were looking and pointing at Jessi. She is the greatest Trinity Irish dancer!!
The Scottish band, Old Blind Dogs returned for the second time in our area. I though Aaron sang a lot like James Taylor so I loved all of it and of course bought their CD.
Their tour bus while in the United States.
They were hosted by a local couple and I was privileged to kick back with them well into the wee hours. Till next time guys. I know you'll be back!

September Pleasures

We all enjoyed the great weather this weekend.
This quilt "Wowed me".
The acorns are dropping from the trees LOTS ! Diana is going to treat her squirrels to some.

I finally got to 'roll the quilt' after 6 more inches of hand quilting. I still want to encourage everyone to try you hand at 'hand quilting'. Remember the 2" square I asked you for last year? Well, this year I ask that you hand quilt just 2" !!

I found these Diva Witch shoes at a thrift store. Zippers up the back. Looked nice on Hilda's witchy women quilt.

Denise finished hand quilting her "Dear Jane" quilt and brought it for Show n Tell. WOW !!
