I always struggle with organization. What works for me sometimes, well doesn't always work every time. My latest find are these clips with attached labels that you can write on. 
And I love this little find. It is a horizontal, one week at a time calendar. I have learned that if you like something, it may not always be available so when I bought this calendar I also bought blank calendar pads too. They always seem to discontinue something after I grow fond of it. So I'm good for the next 6 or so years :D
